Rajahmundry

New and old bridge of RajahmundryCity of Rajahmundry is one of the old cities of Andhara Pradesh state. Located between two main cities Visakahaptnam and Vijayawada of AP state. By the side of Godavari river this city is the oldest business center of AP. This city got its name from the King whose statue is there in one of the city center.
There are many temples around Rajahmundry and one of the important places is Annavaram temple located at a distance of 90 KM from Rajahmundry towards Visakhapatnam. This temple can be visited while coming to Rajahmundry from Visakhapatnam or while returning.

Dowlaiswaram

Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage is located at downstream of River Godavari at a distance of 6 KM from city center. This old barrage of length 1440.05 meter has 70 spans. There is a status of Sir Arthur Cotton who has constructed this barrage for the benefit of rural areas by providing Irrigation facility through canals. See the picture gallery of this barrage. This place is also a picnic spot as the vast view of river Godavari is visible downstream of the barrage. People (vendors) carrying banana in huge numbers over the barrage for selling is a common scene.

Godavari river at Rajahmundry By Road:National Highway number 5 between Chennai and Kolkatta connects this city. By road on NH 5 it is 200 KM from Visakhapatnam ( towards north or Kolkatta side ) and it is 160 KM from Vijayawada ( south or Chennai side ). Chennai is 600 Km from Rajahmundry. From Visakhapatnam it is 3 hours journey by road.

By rail:

Rajahmundry is connected by Chennai – Howrah main train line. All super fast and express trains stops at Rajahmundry station. After the main station train passes over the river Godavari ( while going towards Chennai ). Train takes 3 hours from Visakahaptnam ( north side ) and 9 hours from Hyderabad and 10 hours from Chennai ( south side )

By Air:

Rajahmundry Airport is located at a distance of 18 KM from main city area at Madurapudi . There are daily flights from Hyderabad and Chennai by air Deccan.

ISKON Rajahmundry

 

The ISKCON Temple Rajahmundry is built in two acres of land situated on the bank of sacred river Godavari in Rajahmundry city.This place has got significance because many Rishis performed their tapasya.Sri Chaitanya Maha Prabhu met his disciple sri Ramananad Raya then governor of Chennai province under the Devotee King Purushotham Maharaj .The famous conversation among the Lord Sri Chaitanya and Ramaananda Raya took place on Godavari Bank and now this place is known as Ramananda Raya Gaudiaya Math.

ISKCON Temple Mandaps:

Around the ISKCON Temple there are ten mantaps

of lord's ten incarnations (Dasavatras).It is built uniquely and it is the third largest temple after Bangalore and Tirupathi in south India among ISKCON Temples .There is vedic exhibition in cellar of the temple complex depicting Lord Krishna, lord Rama and Chaitanya lilas which attracts students ,devotees and visiting public.

The temple is visited daily by 1000 to 1500 devotees and on Sundays 6,000 to 8,000 devotees and on Janmasthmi day 50,000 devotees.

There is Govinda Gift stall adjoining the temple hall. On upstairs there are 15 preaching glow sign boards and another Govinda Gift stall where the Founder Acharya books and other devotional paraphernalia are available.

Temple Management:

The temple is headed by its president Sriman SATYA GOPINATH DAS who has got two decades experience in conducting ISKCON major activities like building temples, conducting Rath Yatras, holding Hare Krishna festivals at various places.

Temple Timeings:

On every Friday the Lord Govinda Srinivas Abhishekam is performed at 6:30 am. On every Saturday and Sunday there is sannai vayidyam is performed with musical instruments glorifying the Lord .

At 7:30 am the darshan is opened and there is sringar or darshan arathi. The deities are decorated in fresh clothes, adorned with beautiful garlands and jewellery. After darshan arathi, there will be Srila Prabhupada arathi followed by Srimad Bhagavatam class from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. The darshan is opened until 1:00pm and is closed after raja bhoga arathi. The temple and the darshan are reopened at 4:30 pm with arathi.

 At 6:30 pm there is Tulasi arathi followed by Sandhya (Gourva) arathi. After Sandhya arathi there is Bhagavad Gita class from 7: 30 pm to 8:30 pm. Soon after the class there is unjal seva(julan yatra) to the lordships Sri Sri Radha Gopinath. The temple is closed after unjal seva i.e. at 8:45pm. On very special occasions such as sri Krishna janmasthmi etc the temple is opened all over the day.

Apart from this the deity of mother Godavari is offered pooja two times daily i.e. at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Early in 1930’s Sri Ravi Chinnarao has started grafting of fruit plants as a hobby, later on Late Sri Akula Subbarao make it as a industry and there after the industry never back.
